Several Companies Respond to Chicken House Fire in Harrington

On Wednesday April 15, 2026 at 15:15 hrs the Harrington, Frederica, Felton and Greensboro (Caroline County, MD) Fire Companies along with Kent County EMS were dispatched to a Chicken House on fire in the 300 Block of Hayfield Rd. 50 Command (Deputy Chief Robbie Brode) arrived on scene and reported two 400 foot long chicken houses fully involved. Command also reported that both houses were full of chickens and the fire was spreading into a near by woods. Deputy Chief Brode established command and requested a tanker task force to the scene. Water supply was established and crews began a water shuttle at fill sites at Clarks Corner Apartments, Friendship Village Apartments and a Dry Hydrant at a local farm. In addition to the Tanker Task Force Command requested additional tankers and rescues to the scene to assist with operations and to provide Manpower. Units on scene utilized several 5 inch supply lines and several handlines to bring the fire under control. The scene was placed under control in approximately 3 hours. Units remained on scene for several hours for extensive overhaul and clean up. All units cleared the scene by 21:00 hours. The following fire companies assisted on scene: Felton, Houston, Frederica, Farmington, Greenwood, Bridgeville, South Bowers, Magnolia, Dover, Smyrna, Camden-Wyoming, Carlisle, Little Creek, Cheswold, Greensboro (Caroline County, MD), Ridgley (Caroline County, MD) and Sudlersville (Queen Anee County, MD), Kent County EMS, Delaware State Fire School and Fire Police. The Marydel Fire Co. Stood-by at the Harrington Fire Company for the duration of the incident. The Harrington Fire Company would also like to send a special thanks to Neil Gerardi Excavating for assisting in moving debris piles, Butler Fuel for providing fuel for the apparatus and the Harrington Fire Company Auxiliary for providing food and drinks at the scene.
